History
The
West Branch Community School web site was originally created by the Business
Computer II class in January-May of 1998. This class was especially created
for this project and is now a permanent part of the business education
curriculum. The focus during the first year was developing pages about
the high school. Faculty involved in developing the project were
Mary Bendixen, Dennis Yearous, and Ed Hauth.
The
Spring of 1999 class picked up where the first group left off the
previous year. The students revised the high school academic section
and created elementary pages.
In the Fall of 1999, Nathan Hoeme took Business Computers II as an independent study and worked on updating pages created by the previous groups of students. He also created a new faculty email page and many pages for the high school guidance counselor. In
the Spring of 2000, the class updated existing pages and created
the middle school section of our site.
During the Fall of 2000, Chris Verlo undertook a major revision of the web site as an independent study project. He redesigned and reorganized the high school section of our site and turned the e-mail directory into a searchable database. Using the West Branch Journalism department as a model; Chris helped Mary Bendixen, faculty advisor, to restructure the Business Computers II class. In
the Spring of 2001, the web design team was born. The restructured
Business Computers II class now included not only recent graduates of
Business Computers I, but also students who were taking Business Computers
II for the second time. These experienced students took on the role
of editor, while the new students acted as reporters. The editors
organized and managed the updates, revisions of the site, and assigned
jobs to reporters accordingly.

In
the Fall of 2001, the group focused on becoming more organized
and focused as a staff. To begin working toward accomplishing
this goal, the editors took part in a day long retreat in which they discussed
the overall purpose of the site, the strengths and weaknesses of the organization,
and goals for the future. One outcome of the retreat was the Web Design
Team's Mission
Statement.
The focus during the Spring of 2002 was on improving our system - specifically, to be more organized and up-to-date with our site updates. An important addition to the site were job openings and applications forms which had been highly requested by persons seeking employment in the district. Spring of 2002 Business Computers II class:

As of now the editors have decided to try and re-design the site before they graduate this spring. Editors:
