Activity Ideas

*Do one of the listed water experiments–or better yet–change a variable and create your OWN and tell me all about it!!!  Here are three that we’ve started at school:

  • Evaporation Locations–in the same type of cup, place the same amount of water and put each of the cups in different locations around your home.  Check daily to      see which has evaporated the most.  Can you provide evidence/guess as to “why” this is happening??
  • Surface Area–Place the same amount of water in three different containers–i.e.–a Coffee cup, a bowl, and a pie pan.  Place the three containers in the SAME area in your home.  Check these daily to see if the size of the opening makes a difference in how quickly the water evaporates.  Can you figure out “why” it is happening??
  • Condensation Chamber–get two identical clear, plastic cups…place a ½ cup of water in the bottom cup and then tape the other cup on top as a “lid”.  Place this in the sunshine and observe what happens.  You can do multiple condensation chambers and place them in different locations around your home to see how/if the location affects your results.

**AS ALWAYS, IF YOU DO ONE OF THESE (OR A DIFFERENT ONE AT HOME) HAVE YOUR PARENT/GUARDIAN SEND ME A PHOTO…I LOVE SEEING MY LITTLE SCIENTISTS AT WORK!!!!!!!
