- Daily Phonological Practice — letter names and sounds
- Rhyming
- Phoneme (sound) addition/substitution/deletion example: I have __at, what is it if I add the /b/ sound (make sound) to it? Bat Now change the /b/ sound to an /r/ sound, what is the word? Rat If I have the word cat and take away the /c/ sound, what is the sound that is left? At (Note that not all sounds will make an actual word. You might have the word or sound ___ig and do the same routine.)
- Where can you find letters in our house? How many “C’s can you find?” Can do a letter or a few a day.
- Practice writing your name
- Practice writing letters
- READ, READ, READ to your child!

Activity Ideas
- Counting whenever possible! (At the dinner table, everyone can take turns saying numbers in order. One person “1” next person “2” and so forth.) Start at random numbers and count on this way too.
- Don’t forget to count backwards
- Scavenger hunt- How many __ can you find in our house or outside?
- Grab and count–use resources from your home–buttons, blocks, crayons, rocks, etc. Grab a handful and count them. Then draw how many (you can use circles as symbols for the object) and then write the number.
- Roll a die (or two), count how many and write the number.
- Ask your child what comes after ____ (a number), before, in between?
- Play “I’m thinking of a number between 0-20.” Use less than and greater than language to guess the number.
- Count by 10’s.
- Graph the number of letters in all the names of your family.
- Graph what the weather is like

- Plant some seeds
- Collect rocks (or other objects) and sort them by size
- Gather objects from around the house and see if they sink or float
- Make a list of some animals–put them into categories (size, # of legs, wild/not wild, color, etc.) How many different ways can you sort them?
